Her formal art education was obtained at Stephens College in Missouri where she earned he AA degree in Commercial Art and at the University of Denver where she received her BFA in Advertising Design. She has continued her education through work shops and classes with both local and national artists. After a successful 15-year career in television, she began painting in 1984. Her preferred medium is watercolor, although she also enjoys working in pen and ink, colored pencils, and other media. She describes her style as "designed realism" - patterns, shapes and colors that combine to tell stories.
Custer's work is included in private and corporate collections in this country and abroad. She is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society.
