Award winning photographer Robert Parham leads this introduction to scenic/nature photography in the magnificent San Juan Mountains near Ouray, Colorado. July is the prime wildflower month in these mountains, especially in the high mountain basins where we will also encounter beautiful waterfalls, lakes, and perhaps wildlife (in the past we’ve seen deer, elk, and black bear). This is a photographer’s paradise, one that Robert has been photographing for over twenty years.
The workshop includes morning and afternoon outings to a variety of scenic locations in the mountains (transportation is provided for each outing). Each day will begin at 7am and wind down around 6-7p.m. with about two hours of classroom instruction following a short noontime break. Hikes will be short and easy, but at elevations as high as 12,000’, not recommended for people with heart or respiratory problems.
Aspects of digital and film scenic/nature photography, including composition, proper use of equipment, proper shooting technique, and best time to be out in the field will be covered in detail, but it is important that each person understands the basic operation of his/her camera before the workshop begins. Each participant will need their camera, plenty of memory cards or film, a tripod, layered clothing, including a rain poncho or jacket, blood walking shoes or boots and a pack for carrying camera gear and any snacks or additional clothing. Bottled water and snacks will be provided.
*Partial refunds are available only in case of medical emergency or extreme weather that keeps us from going out into the field.
