Roger A. House

Roger A. House

To me, petroglyphs express the mystery of who we are as human beings.  I am intrigued by what the Anasazi were trying to communicate.  Pictographs and petroglyphs are being vandalized and destroyed and what we have now may one day be lost.  For that reason, I would like people to develop an appreciation for them and to help preserve them.

I love being out in  nature and looking for the rocks to work on.  It can't be just any rock... it needs to be the right shape and patina to represent the image.  I have always worked with my hands and enjoy chiseling the images on the natural stone.  For this I use a steel chisel but I've found that a rock is best for beating on the chisel and pecking out the image.  Hammer doesn't work as well for me.  I do not use any other machines or tools... each piece is one of a kind.
